In the natural vascular tree there is an optimal balance between the take off angle, the diameter of the arteries and the flow they harbour. This leads to ideal hemodynamics and no induction of stenoses. The balanced creation is also very energy efficient leading to less work load for the heart.

The company y-graft AB has developed a new by-pass graft addressing all the drawbacks of the grafts of today. The device has characteristics resembleming the natural vascular tree.

After a number of computer based simulations the following new graft is proposed:
The y-graft

The flow separation is located within the graft which makes it possible to create a hemodynamical optimal bifurcation. The optimal balance between the take off angles, the diameter of the conduits and the transported flow volume is identical to what we see in nature.

y-graft is therefore the first natural, artificial graft. Our computer simulations show an improved level of shear stress, lack of turbulence and more energy efficiency. Furthermore, the separation of flow and the connection sites are at different locations.
